I stumbled upon a photo of my grandfathers brother, Hollis Gunyon who was killed in action. I was wondering if anyone out here has any additional information or photos of Hollis.

Hollis Gunyon was part of the 17th Armored Infantry Battalion, Company C. He was killed in France, and I have read that the incident is described in the book
MOUNT UP. I will report back when I get a chance to
follow up. The book can be read on this website.
On the left side of this page, go to BOOKS AND WRITTEN EXPERIENCES. Scroll down to the 17th Arm Inf. Bn.
Select MOUNT UP. The story will be near the beginning
of the book when the 12th Armored was in Alsace, during
December, January and February. I will look for pictures,
etc.

Please see page 27 of the book MOUNT UP
referenced on the previous page.

This describes the death of Hollis Gunyon.
I will look for more information later.

If you go to BOOKS AND WRITTEN EXPERIENCES on this website, scroll down to the 17th
and read about the Colmar Pocket campaign.
You may find out background material. Also read about the same campaign by the 23rd Tank Battalion and the 493rd Armd Field Artillery. These 3 battalions fought together in Combat Command R.

It is important to keep this history alive and we must never forget the men who fought. Mike W.
