I'm the nephew of Sgt Bilie E. Carrigan who was killed in Jan 45 in Herrlisheim. Looking for any info about what happened to my uncle. I only have one army photo of him which I would be glad to post but would appreciate other pics of my uncle that others may have.

Thanks,
John Dains

Hellol John, There is a report written about the Battle
of Herrlisheim. Your Uncle, Billie Carrigan was killed
on January 8th, I believe. He was in Company C of the 56th Armored Infantry Battalion. Here is a page from
the report describing what happened that day. Copy this address and put it into your search box if
just clicking on this address does not work.

John,

Here is the citation for Billy's Posthumous award of the Bronze Star:

BILLY E. CARRIGAN, 36 756 884, Sergeant, Company C, 56th Armored Infantry Battalion, for heroic achievement on 8 January 1945 in the vicinity of Herrlisheim, France. Sergeant Carrigan volunteered for a seemingly impossible mission to neutralize enemy positions that were stopping his companys advance. Sergeant Carrigan, then, aided in the capture of several prisoners who were the first captured in the vicinity of Herrlisheim, France. He was wounded by enemy sniper fire while returning with these prisoners. These wounds later resulted in his death. Sergeant Carrigans action displayed action displayed courage and daring in volunteering for an important but dangerous mission and is in keeping with the highest traditions of the armed forces. Next of kin: Mrs. May Carrigan (mother), Box No. 69, Catlin. Illinois.

I've emailed the General Orders for it to Mike Woldenberg. Please contact him for a copy. Good luck in your search for your Uncle's story.

Bob Scherer
