Some men from the 12th Armored Division were
transferred into the 771st Tank Destroyer Battalion
after the war. I believe the assignment was constabulary duty (o keep order in the months
after the war. There appears to be a very good
web site for the 771st. Contact people who have produced that website for specific information on the
771st.

I have seen a book devoted to the history of the battalion that was published just after the war. I did have the title, but I would have to dig in several boxes
to find the reference. The website people may
know the title.

I can check the "Order of Battle" for the 12th Armored, because I am not sure whether the 771st was assigned for a short period to the 12th Armored.
I will look.

The 771st was not attached to the 12th Armored
Division. As I have written, some men from the 12th
Armored were assigned to the 771st after the war.
I think I have heard of cases where some men from the
771st were assigned temporarily to the 12th just for
the trip home on a ship. The 12th Armored was deactivated on Dec. 3rd, 1945. I do not know the
date of the deactivation of the 771st, but it was later.
