So I bought it on ebay. Zero mention of anything, but I took a closer look and found his name and everything. 7th Prov OUT was written on the pan portion.... along with his name and main unit info "12th Arm Div, 134 MN Bn Company B Geo Copp" I guess he went by Geo?

Wow! Amazing history behind this piece! Thanks for the info! Keep it coming if you got it!

On all the pages in the Hellcat News, he was known
as George. I think he used Geo. as an abbreviation.
To update others who may be following this, George
may have been sent to the 7th Provisional Company,
black soldiers who were sent to the 14th Armored
Division in March of 1945. He was promoted to
2nd Lt. (This is based on the inscription on his
mess kit: "7th Prov." )
