My father was attached to the 572nd AAA Battery C. He was a Lieutenant. Started his military career in the 123rd Kentucky horse cavalry a national guard unit. Can anyone add more information about him? He passed away in 2012 in Fort Bliss, Texas.

look for 572 in Books and Written Experiences in left column. The history is there. Your dad is listed under Home Addresses of Officers. If I find any more info I will post it. They have a record they can be proud of!

Thanks for the reply. I went through the history of the Helltracks and noted my father received a bronze star and a purple heart. He never talked about the circumstances surrounding those medals. What sources could I use to answer those questions? Thanks again. R. Wayne Jr.

Hello, I may be able to help with the Bronze Star.
The Archives in College Park, Maryland
has files for the 12th Armored Division, or may
have the 572nd AAA Battalion separately. There are GENERAL ORDERS which have lists of medal winners and citations for the medals. The Bronze Star was given for bravery, or also for doing a very good job over a period of time. The date will be
given and the location. The Purple Heart citation
will not have much information, other than, perhaps, the date he was wounded.
