My wife and I will be visiting the museum on Fri April 7th, her father served with 17th Battalion, HQ Company PFC. Francis McAneny for South Philly.

Have read quite a bit about his company, hard to tell exactly where he was involved since most records follow Companies A,B and C. I understand that HQ members augmented some companies or Combat Commands.

Any way to find out more info?

My dad William (Bill) Woody was also in the HQ Co of the 17th AIB. I have also been unable to find out the exact role he played. I do know he worked in the Message Center and I know he saw action. I have been unable to find out what platoon he was in. He rarely mentioned other men's names in his letters back home.

The written info on this website is very informative but has little on the HQ Co itself. Mike Woldenberg has suggested looking at the oral history videos given by guys who were in HQ Co so I plan to do so.

I have done quite a bit of research on where my dad was during the war, including going to St. Louis to visit the National Personnel Records Center and have found out bits and pieces here and there. I also plan to go to the National Archives at some point (life gets in the way and I never seem to get there). If I don't find out anything further there, well then I just have to realize I may never know any more details.

You will love the museum and its staff by the way. They were super helpful to me when I visited with my sister a couple of years ago.

Good luck and if you find out anything or if you want to ask me anything feel free to email ...

Hello. I'll be making a trip to the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) next week. If you can tell me when your father-in-law joined the 17th AIB and when he left that unit I may be able to find some information on him from the unit Morning Reports. Unfortunately I don't think there is enough time for me to request his personnel record from the NPRC before I get there. I will also be looking for information for Nina Donath. Please email me at rwscherer@verizon.net or call me at 215-321-6262 with any information you have on him. Bob Scherer - 12th ADA historian
