My father,Leonard Paszek, was with this unit. Can you tell me where they were in Europe? He didnt talk much about the war and I have often wondered where he went and the battles he was in. thank you

I can send you the After Action Report for the
714th. The reproduction is poor in places, probably
because it was copied from a blurred copy. It should
give you the information you want. But there are other books and a few memoirs that you can read
for historical context.

Let me know if you want the After Action Report.

One more thing. I think Company D used light
tanks. (From memory which is imperfect).

During the first part of the battle of Herrlisheim (Jan. 8-Jan. 10 or 12) a few light tanks of the 714th carried wounded from the Waterworks to the aid station at Rohrwiller a couple of miles away on Purple Heart Lane. (Herrlisheim north of Strassburg).

Mike, thanks for the info. I would be interested in anything you have, also the names of the books and memoirs if you have.

Thank you

Hello Pat, I believe I forgot to send you the After Action Report for the

It is unfortunate that there is no Battalion History for the 714th. I do have
a small memoir from one member of the battalion that I will search for.

Also, go to the Museum website: 12tharmoredmuseum.com

Click on the left side, click on the DEATH OF AN AMERICAN COMBAT COMMAND.
This will give you some idea of very tough fighting in Herrlisheim in
January, 1945.
Also click on BOOKS AND WRITTEN EXPERIENCES. Scroll down to the 56h
Armored Infantry
Battalion. Read INITIAL ASSAULT ON HERRLISHEIM BY THE 56TH AIB AND
THE 714TH TANK BATTALION.
On left side, click on ORAL HISTORY VIDEOS.
Click on BATTALION on top of column. This will sort the battalions
into groups. Find the group of
interviews for the 714th Tank Battalion.

You might read the History Books listed under DIVISION.

I will look for other things.
