I don't know if anyone can help me but my grandfather Emil Buote from Massachusetts was in the war. My mother said when he left he was a sergeant and was also supposed to have been awarded a purple heart while in France. However, he did not stay to receive it. I'm looking to find at least one picture of him and how if at all to get his medal. He passed away in 1997 and I have been looking for this info forever. He was my everything. If there is anyone that can help I would be beyond grateful. Thank you and God bless you all.

Hello MaryAnne, You did not mention whether your grandfather was in the 12th ARmored Division. Our roster of names is not complete and I could not find his name. Do you have his discharge paper? It would give the division and battalion. It would also have his identification number:
(Army Serial Number). This might be helpful if we have to
apply for a special government form:

DD-214. (Look this up using Google).

It should say that he earned a Purple Heart on that form, by the way.

So see what information you have.

Mike W

If he was in the 12th Armored, do you know the number or name of his
battalion?

On the left side, click on

BOOKS AND WRITTEN EXPERIENCES
Maryanne, on the left side, click on BOOKS AND WRITTEN EXPERIENCES.

Scroll down to the 43rd Tank Battalion, Read the UNIT HISTORY...

go to near the end of the book and read the roster of the Service Co.
Read the history of the Service Co. And then read the whole book.

The Service Co. did maintenace on the tanks (I think).

Mike.
There is more material in the Hellcat News Archives. I will get back to you.
