Was the 12th formed from other armored divisions.

I seem to,remember my Dad talking about N. Africa but the 12th wasn't in N. Africa.

Could he have been part of another division and put into the 12th

The 12th was not formed from another Armored Division.
In your Dad's case, a few men somehow were parts of
other Divisions in the Mediterranean area and were reassigned to the 12th Armored,
probably as replacements for men lost during the fiighting.
My Uncle, Lt. Charles M. Willis (KIA) was once a paratrooper who jumped into southern France from a base near Rome.
He was wounded or injured or ill and eventually was reassigned to the 12tt Armored.

You might ask for his records. You should find the
DD 214 Form on the internet. You may find the records
or you may get a message that the records were burned in a fire. Give it a try.

My father was originally assigned to a 2d Armored division training at Ft Knox but was pulled at the last minute (think he got sick) and was reassigned to the 12th. So he talked some about North Africa, because that is where he *would* have gone if he had stayed with the 2AD
