posted 10/18/2015 4:02:16 PM Here is one of the names my dad mentioned: John Vecsey from Bridgeport, CT. My dad wrote that he was his helper & buddy in the 23rd tank battalion. They worked together on a ration truck in Giengen Germany & he helped my dad master driving a truck.

posted 10/19/2015 7:24:37 AM Joanie, I can't find any reference to your Dad Phillip Hull, or John Vecsey in past issues of the Hellcat News. You might try yourself.
Go to Google and enter:
http://texashistory.unt.edu/explore/partners/TADM/browse/
Then, scroll down and enter the name--either Hull or Vecsey. Be sure to limit your search for newspapers. Later, you can try photographs. (There is a line where you can choose these options).
Hull can be confused with the hull of a tank.
Vecsey is actually easier to work with.
When you submit your entry, several thumb nail pictures of the front page of the Hellcat News will appear. Click on the top one. Then click on it again and you will see something like "sequence 4". This means the word is on page 4. Click on the page again and page 4 will appear. The word Hull will be highlighted in yellow. Suppose you have a story about a tank hull, not the name Hull. Click to go backwards on the top left of your screen. Eventually you will get the thumbnail pages again. (If you do not, simply start the whole process over again, skipping the pages you have already examined).
Once you have moved on to the next thumbnail click on it, and click once more to see the page you want.
So far as I could tell, I found no references to your Dad or to Vecsey.
The next step is to ask the Unit Representative to the Hellcat News to put a notice in the News. I will get you that in a few minutes.

posted 10/19/2015 7:30:40 AM Let's try the Hellcat News and see what you can find out. Note that your Dad was with the 12th Armored for a very limited time during the fighting, but for a longer time after the war ended.
Geoff Lackey is the unit Representative for the 23rd Tank Battalion. His email is:
