Would like to hear from anyone who served with him. I know his company commander was a Captain Ferguson.

Hello Andy, Please contact Bill Funke, the Unit Rep to the Hellcat News.

He may be able to help. In the meantime,
check out the BOOKS AND WRITTEN EXPERIENCES
on the left column. Read the memoirs for the 17th AIB. Also, listen to the Oral History Videos. Click on the top of the column labeled BATTALION. This will group all the men by battalion.

Finally, scroll down several items until you
see what I wrote on

Researching the Hellcat News Archive

Best regards, Mike Woldenberg

Hi Andy, I found a nice article about Buford Rogers. It is the citation for his Silver Star. It is in the September 1984, Hellcat News, page 19.

Sgt Buford M. Rogers, Company A, 17th AIB:
His platoon was pinned down by enemy fire.
Sgt Rogers crawled forward under fire towards the enemy held positions. Approaching to within fifteen yards of the enemy held dug-in position, he quickly lobbed in three grenades and then rushed forward with fixed bayonet to dispose of the survivors.
