Earl was my grandfather. He passed away in 2000. I found an old newspaper article that said he was in 56 th battlion company c. I found his name in the roster but I'm confused on his picture he had the 4th division patch but he is listed on the 12th. I'm confused and would like as much information on my grandfather as possible. I'm trying to get all the info together for for my dad and uncles. They would really appreciate it. I'm trying to suprise them. Thanks

Earl White was in Company C of the 56th Armored Infantry Battalion. When the war ended, it is likely that he was temporarily
assigned to the 4th Division, perhaps for
the occupation of Germany and or when he was en route back to the USA.

I suggest that you look at BOOKS AND WRITTEN
EXPERIENCES and scroll down to the memoirs about the 56th. Read the Nugent book. Also
read the History of the 56th (hand written
diary) You can find out if he was wounded
and his medals (if any) MAY be mentioned.
In fact you can read all the books on the
56th. There are also Oral History Videos.
Look on the left for the videos.

Contact Ed Pierce and ask him to put an
announcement in the Hellcat News. He is
the unit Representative.

the rosters I have list him as being in HQ.
Do you know where he enlisted from? and where he is buried at. DATE OF DISCHARGE. All might help find out more about him. email address would help because we can't post pictures, etc on here

Hello, Our Rosters have almost all the men
of the 56th assigned to Head Quarters Co.
This was done as a "place holder" because they
simply did not have the correct information
when they made the roster. I have found
other information and I believe he was in Co.
C. So it will be either HQ or C.
