Hello, Pfc Motteram was a member of the
56th Armored Infantry Battalion, Co. A.
He was killed on January 9th, 1945 in the
initial assault on the town of Herrlisheim,
north of Strassburg. The 56th took many
casualties on the 8th and 9th. I will look
to see if he had any medals beyond the
Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman's
Badge.

You should email the unit representative to
the Hellcat News, Mr. Ed Pierce. He is a veteran from A-56. He might know someone
who will remember Maurice Motteram.

See, BOOKS AND WRITTEN EXPERIENCES. Click
on History of the 56th Armored Infantry Battalion. (Middle of list). See the
memoir on the 56th by John Nugent (near
the end of the list). GO TO THE ORAL HISTORIES. Look for men from A-56th.
(Click on Battalions, to sort the battalions
together).

The 12th Armored took a beating from early
January to late January. Read DEATH OF AN
AMERICAN COMBAT COMMAND.

Yours truly, Mike Woldenberg
