Hello, Francis Beckman was in Battery C.
493d Armored Field Artillery. You can find
a very good book on this Battalion on this website: Look to the left and click on
BOOKS AND WRITTEN EXPERIENCES. Scroll down
to The Pictorial History of the 493d Armored
Field Artillery. There are many pictures and
a history of the battalion. Also, contact
the unit representative to the Hellcat News.
He may be able to find people who knew Francis
Parkman.
Marvin Bertelson, (408) 739 5958

Finally, look to the left and click on
Oral History Videos. Then click on Battalion
at the top of the page. This sorts all members of the same battalion together.
Then find the 493d.
This will keep you busy for many hours.

Hi, If you are asking for my email address,
it is

geomike@buffalo.edu

Note that this is found at the top of my
message on the left side. Just click on that envelope.

I registered as
a member and submitted a password, etc. If you want to, you can do the same thing. This
would speed up replies any questions you might have.

Where is the picture you found?

Thanks, Mike Woldenberg

A Francis Beckman is given credit for winning a contest to name the "Hellcats".

Francis Beckman is my grandfather too. He passed away in 2009 but I'm searching for information since his war medals and scrapbook have since been stolen. He did win the contest to name the "Hellcats" so I know I'm in the right place! On this 70th anniversary of D-Day, I'm specifically wondering when and where he was stationed in Europe. Any info is greatly appreciated!
