I'm looking to share pictures and stories from my Grandfather, Duncan Black from his service. A few pictures have partial names on back and my Grandma told me some stories 2nd hand. I do know that my Grandfather passed away right after the Reunion in 1969. I also found his Bronze Star and I'd really appreciate help finding out why he was awarded it. How do you go about finding out why a Bronze Star was awarded? Thanks!

Hello, You can send copies or computer scans (high
resolution) of the photos to the Unit Representative of the
134th to the Hellcat News, Ken Klinedinst.

Ken might be able to find the complete names as well.

Bronze Star: The National Archives in College Park, Maryland has files on the 12th Armored, and for each
of its battalions. Within the battalion files or the
Division files, you will find General Orders (G.O.)
numbered separately for 1944 and 1945. You can
search these General Orders for your grandfather's name,
and there should be a short paragraph stating what he
did to earn the Bronze Star. There are two kinds of
Bronze Stars. One is for valor in battle. The other is for
doing an excellent job over a period of several months.

Just possibly you can ask a govt. or privater researcher at the Archives to get the information for you.

I meant to suggest that Ken could publish some of
the photos. Please send him your stories as well.

Thanks, Mike Woldenberg
