Sgt Duane A Smith, 44th Tank Battalion:
Your father was in the 44th Tank Battalion which was part of the 12th Armored, but which
was detached from the 12th and sent to New
Guinea, and from there went to the Phillipines
(as you know). Please contact Bob Rutledge,
who knows a lot about the 44th Tank Battalion.

The 44th stopped participating in the 12th
Armored Reunions in about the year 2000.
Perhaps Bob can put you in touch with people
who knew your father.

Look on the left side column. Go to Oral History Videos. Click on Battalion. There
are 4 interviews with 44th men.

Go to Books and Written Experiences
Look through the top 3 ? books for chapters relating to the Tank Battalion.

Look through the 2713 Division Photos: There are over 40 pages of photos for the
44th Tank Battalion.

Click on the Hellcat News Archive and enter
your Dad's name. After the war, there was
a column for the 44th, and your Dad may be mentioned.

Yours truly, Mike W.
