My Uncle Hector was in the 12th Armored Division and was killed while clearing snipers in France on December 10, 1944.

I am looking for any information on Hector and am especially interested in finding any photos of him.

Please let me know. Thank you!!

Dear DC Clarke, Your Uncle Hector D'Ambrosio was in Headquarters Company of the 17th Armored Infantry Battalion.

For photos, go to the column
on the left, and click on 2713 DIVISION PHOTOS. Click on the 17th Armored Infantry Battalion. Also check PHOTO ALBUM on the left.

Go to BOOKS AND WRITTEN EXPERIENCES.
Read 17th Armored Historical Information
by George Hatt.

Read Journal of Operations of the 17th AIB.

Read Mount Up, the history of Company C.

You will find that 5 men were killed by
"friendly fire" on December 9th. In Mount
Up, I learned that your uncle was not in that
group, thank God. I could find no reference
to your Uncle's death on Dec. 10th.

Please contact the Unit Representative to the Helcat News: Bill Funke, 970 482 0255.
fwilliam46@msn.com

He can place a note in the News. Ask him specifically for the names of living members
of Headquarters Company. Get their phone
numbers, etc.

Yours truly, Mike Woldenberg

Mike,

Thanks for the information. I understand that my Uncle was in HQ/17th/12th Armored Division and have also found a oral history video from Thaddeus Zawacki who recounts how my Uncle was killed in action. Thaddeus passed away in 2009 and I have been in contact with his son but he does not have any other information.

I am looking for anyone else who knew my Uncle Hector D'Ambrosio and also any photographs that may exist. I did find two photos under the "timeline" section of the website which show soldiers "cleaning out a town" on December 10th which is the day he was killed and the activity he was performing that day.

I spoke to Ken K. today and he also gave me Bill's contact information so I will reach out to him as well.

Thank you.
