I am looking for any information about the military records or experience of this guy. Would love to speak with anyone who served with him or remembers anything about him. He was my wife's dad and although he tried to talk about his military service with me several times, he could never get it to come out. He would begin to talk about an event or a recollection and then just stop. Sometimes in mid sentence and you could see in his eyes that he was back there again. He would remain silent for a few minutes before he could speak again and then change the subject.
We would really like to know a little about what he went through during his time in Germany.

Try to make it to a reunion. August the is national in D.C.
There may be regional gatherings closer to you, but the people you meet will help fill in some ambuguities you have about 12th AD.

Dear Steve, Here are some suggestions: The Battalion representative to the Hellcat News is Marvin Bertelsen:
408 739 5958. He can probably put you in touch with
other men from Battery A. Marvin will be in Washington D.C.
for the annual reunion of the 12th Armored Division. There will be a few veterans from the 493d there. (Wednesday August 3d until Sunday departure). Hyatt Regency, Crystal City; 2799 Jefferson Davis Highway, Arlington, VA 22202.
Hotel phone: 703 418 1234). I know it is very late, but
you would be welcome if you came. I can not guarantee that you would find men who knew your father in law because not many men from this battalion attended last year.
Secondly, go to the left side of the screen and click on
BOOKS AND WRITTEN EXPERIENCES. Scroll down to THE PICTORIAL HISTORY OF THE 493D FIELD ARTILLERY. This is a good source of information.
Lastly, look to the left and click on ORAL HISTORY VIDEOS. Click on the BATTALION column. Scroll down to
the 493d. You should find men from Battery A.
