Does anyone have any additional information on what HQ Company means or did within the 12th Armored Division? I first posted about this a year and half ago and thought with the increased activity on this board that someone might know.

My uncle said my Grandpa drove a tank and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He arrived in France in late summer or early fall of 1944. We have pictures of him with ihs tank and in Heidenheim.

Thanks for your help!

Hello, Raymond B Schneider appears to have been in
Headquarters Company within the Division Headquarters.
(See the "17,000 Men" Roster). If you look at "Organization and Equipment of the 12th Armored" (Left side of screen),
you will see that Division Headquarters had 3 light tanks.
On the other hand, if Raymond Schneider was in a tank
battalion, there were plenty of tanks, including some in the Headquarters Company of the Battalion.

There were 3 tank battalions, 23d, 43d and 714th. The 43d roster does not mention Raymond Schneider.

In summary, you should search first, Division Headquarters, and its HQ company), then HQ companies of the 23d and 714th Tank Battalions.

Contact these unit representatives:

Div. HQ: W.W. Hardin: bill_hardin223@sbcglobal.net

23d tank battalion: geoff Lackey: lackeys@charter.net
and Jim Francis, jimfrancis18@sbcglobal.net

714th Tank battalion: koenig_Mary@hotmail.com
