We are searching for information or someone that might have served with our family member. He was in the US Army and part of the 44th Tank Battalion and was involved with the invasion of Manilla. His tank name was either West Frankfort Thunderbolt or Yankee.

Hello,

Robert Rutledge is building a website for the 44th
Tank Battalion. He knows several of the veterans.

bobrutl@yahoo.com

The 44th Tank Battalion was sent to the Pacific
theater and instrumental in liberating civilian prisoners in a camp in Manilla. They have not been represented in
recent reunions and do not have a representative to our
Hellcat News. However, they are mentioned in the
Books and Written Experiences. (See the column on the
left side). Undoubtedly there are stories about them on the web.

Thank you Robert. We have been there and done that. Just thought that there might still be someone out there with different or more information. We have found one of the members of Lavern's tank crew. He is 90+ and lives in Marion, Illinois. His name is Mike Mahalic and he is pictured with Laverne and the tank "Yankee" in the "Timeline" sight.

Thank you again.

Yesterday on my post I errored. I should have said thank you Robert and Mike. Also, Mr. Mahalick's first name is Charles and I also mispelled his last name. Hope this sets the records straight.
