Hi, I was wondering if anyone here was friends with my grandfather Edward Wittenberger from Philadelphia or remembers him. He was with the 56th Arm Inf Bat HQ I can be emailed at jwcr80@yahoo.com

after talking with my grandfather more today i realized he was in the 44th tank battalion in the pacific so if anyone remembers Edward Wittenberger

Dear Joseph, Although your grandfather, Edward Wittenberger is listed on the "17,000 Members" roster as belonging to the 56th Armored Infantry Battalion, this may be a mistake, because he says he fought with the 44th Tank Battalion in the Philipines. I wonder if he is in contact with any other veterans.

The 44th does not have a Unit Representative with the
Hellcat News, which is the newsletter for the 12th Armored. However, there is a lot of material about the
44th on our website, including some Oral History Interviews, and some pictures.
