Thank all of you that have served our country. I am the grandson of SGT. Herman J. Ernspiker. I know that he served with different units throughout W.W.II due to injuries sustained in battles. My grandpa spoke very little of the war. However, he never failed to pray for his HELLCAT brothers. I was able to take grandpa to the FORT KNOX Museum shortly before he had a stroke. He finally opened up to me with a few stories. Of course, not knowing what the future held a few short months from our visit to Fort Knox Grandpa fell ill, SGT. Herman J. Ernspiker was my hero. All the other soldiers from W.W. II, I admire greatly. THANK YOU !!!! Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Richie

Dear Richie, Your grandfather was in C Company,
17th Armored Infantry Battalion. You can learn something of what the 17th experienced from this website.
First, go to BOOKS AND WRITTEN EXPERIENCES.
Then find the JOURNAL OF OPERATIONS OF THE 17TH.
There may be other books on that list that describe the
experiences of the 17th. Also read DEATH OF AN AMERICAN COMBAT COMMAND (see the column on the left).
Also, consult on the left: ORAL HISTORY VIDEOS. Find men
from 17C or from any company in the 17th.
Lastly, you can contact the Unit Representative to the
Hellcat News: Bill Funke
fwilliam46@msn.com

He can put an announcement in the Hellcat News.

Just want to let you all know how much I appreciate this site.

Through a lot of resources on this site and my grandpa's memoirs we were able to put together a small book to share with family and anyone interested in SGT. Herman J Ernspiker.
