I'm trying to confirm research information I've received regarding one Charles Harold Wootton. I'm told he served with the 44th Tank Battalion and supposedly took part in the liberation of Santo Tomas on Feb 3, 1945. Any info. would be much appreciated.

Hello, I am a "Legacy" member of the 12th Armored Association. The 44th Tank Battalion was part of the 12th
Armored but was sent to the Pacific Theater before the 12th Armored Division went to Europe. They did participate in the
liberation of St. Tomas. On this website see the relevant
chapter of photos from the 44th under the title
"2713 Division Photos" One can find information on the
44th on the Web.
Because the 44th did not go to Europe, survivors have not
been coming to the reunions in the past several years and I have not met any of these men. I do have a Roster
(2003) I can send to you. You may send me your address

Yours truly, Mike Woldenberg

Sgt Charles H. Wooton of Los Angeles, CA was assigned to C Company, 44th Tank Battalion, and was one of the few members to receive a battlefield commission to 2nd LT. I am the 44th Tank Battalion Association historian and can provide you with further information regarding C Company's combat operations. If you have questions, please contact me at BOBRUTL@yahoo.com and put "44th Tank" in the subject line.

Laverne "Potsie" Lawrence was a tanker in the 44th and participated in the battle of Manilla. His tank was either the "Yankee" or "West Frankfort Thunderbolt". Would like to know if he is on the roster you possess? If so please mail to: Rita Bradley, 202 High Street, Eufaula, Ok, 74432.
