My grandfather was a Prisoner of War in a Germany in 1944. He is currently 86 years old with end stage alzheimer's and he stays at home under my care with the help of Hospice. I am writing his story for our family an unfortunately, because he returned from the war with PTSD, he never spoke about a lot of what went on. If anyone knows anything about him, or where I would be able to go to find more information it would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

WW2 Granddaughter
I do not show your granddad on our Members or POW list. Do you know if he was in the 12th Armored Division? I think there is a National POW organization, I’ll have find it for you.

How do you know he was a POW? Have you ever seen a DD214 form in his papers?
The German’s keep records of those who they captured some of these are available.

Regards

Dear World War 2 Grand daughter,

Steve Czecha is an authority on the POWs of the 12th Armored Division. You should call him; perhaps he has your grandfather's name and Battalion. Once we have the Battalion, we can make an inquiry in the Hellcat News.

Dear World War 2 Granddaughter,

CORRECTION: I put your grandfather's name in Google and found that he is, indeed, on the 12th Armored Rosters and I do not know how I missed this. He was a member of C Company of the 119th Engineer Battalion. He is also listed as a POW on a list of POWs for the Army as a whole, and
not specifically for the 12th Armored Division.

Here is how to proceed:

Contact Mary Ann Delker, Unit Representative to the Hellcat News. (541) 856-3390. She can put an announcement in the Hellcat News. Her email is

hellcatww2@yahoo.com

I am sorry for the confusion.

Yours truly, Mike Woldenberg
