posted 3/5/2009 12:20:34 AM I'm Richard Wenzel, grandson of Richard Ritter Wenzel. My grandfather, "Dick", was in the 43rd tank battalion with the 12th armored.
I didn't see him in the 12th armored roster. I don't know exactly what I'm hoping for, but if anyone might have more information on my grandfather or more information on the 43rd in general, I'd appreciate it.
You can reach me at rwenzel@nc.rr.com
God bless, Richard

posted 3/8/2009 3:43:08 PM Hello, Please check BOOKS AND WRITTEN EXPERIENCES on the left column. Go to UNIT HISTORY. This book is about the 43d tank Battalion. There is a roster for each battalion. The big roster of 17000 MEMBERS in the left column is incomplete. I will get back to you, but I am travelling in Europe. I return in late March.

posted 3/9/2009 9:56:59 AM Thanks. I didn't see those division histories before.
There's a mention of my grandfather in the unit history for the 43rd, working in a tank repair group at the front lines in Herrlisheim.
I'll look to talk with you when you return from Europe.
Safe travels, Rich

posted 3/26/2009 10:03:51 PM For what it's worth, I read the unit histories more closely and discovered that my grandfather's tank commander, Henry Zazzi, is a living association member. I ended up calling Mr. Zazzi last week and had a great conversation with him about my grandfather, whom I never met. Thanks to this site for helping me discover more about my grandfather, thanks to Mr. Zazzi for his time, and thanks to all 12th armored members for your service and sacrifice.
Sincerely, Rich Wenzel
