This is to inform members of the 12th Armored Division Assn. that my father-in-law, your former comrade-in-arms, John M. Nugent, passed away at about 0030 hours on 8 April 2006 in Lawrence, KS. The John Nugent I knew was a quiet man who did not like public displays of emotion, but he always remembered my daughter on her birthday and at Christmas, often with a handmade card. We who are your sons and daughters, and our own children owe a debt of gratitude to the WWII generation. Bad as it may be, the world today is a better place because of you. If anyone has a personal memory of my late father in law, his daughters and I would greatly appreciate your sharing it with us. Roger Creps/Cleveland, OH

Dear Roddy, I am very sorry to hear that
John M. Nugent has died. John was a member of B 56, Armored Infantry Battalion. He knew my Uncle, Lt. Charles M. Willis, who was killed
in Speyer on March 24, 1945. It so happens that the current number of the Hellcat News
arrived yesterday, and on page 17, there is an article that contains a report by John on the difficulty of getting a good winter uniform to the troops in the winter of 1944-45. This article was republished from
a previous issue some years ago.
Please email me your address and I will send you a copy.
