posted 10/4/2005 10:04:32 PM Hello, I am a legacy member of the 12th Armored. Edgar Hoffman was from C Company of the 714th Tank Battalion. (Look at the Roster for the 17,000 members, in the column just to the left on this website). Under Books and Written Experiences, there are resources such as Nightmare In Herrlisheim, and a book about the 714th Tank Battalion. In fact there are several reports about Herrlisheim. See also the book, C 66 by Emery.
Every veteran of the 12th Armored who was there can tell you stories about this battle.
If you want to contact someone who can put you in touch with the men of the 714th Tank Battalion, you should get in touch with Alice Tankesley, email:
atankesley@mindspring.com
She is the unit representative for the Hellcat News.
Yours truly, Mike Woldenberg geomike@buffalo.edu
