I own a Halftrack, a 1944 M5. I have seen several photos of this type of halftrack on your great compilation of pictures, seems like this type was used during training in the US. New halftracks (M2 and M3) were issued in Europe?
On most of the pictures, the vehicles are marked on the side with a white cross, with some symbols on each side. Seems like the bottom space shows the company letter. The other three I don't understand. Can anyone explain the the meaning and use of the markings?

Hello Lars,

I am a Legacy Member of the 12th Armored Division Association.

If you could email me a photo of the markings on your halftrack, I'll forward it to those members who will be able to answer your question.

We have just updated the books and written experiences section of the website and a few books on tanks have been added. There is a book on M 3's amd tank story is where I would begin to look. http://www.12tharmoredmuseum.org/view_books.asp
