posted 8/22/2016 6:11:04 PM My Dad, Wesley M. "Perk" Russell and my Uncle William R. "Bill" Burke Jr. were both trained at Ft. Knox. During their time there, the both of them competed in boxing and won several fights. My Uncle Bill Burke won Llightweight Championship. Any and all information on these two would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. Gary R.

posted 8/23/2016 2:48:41 PM My dad told me that a professional boxer tained them. He also said, while on leave, they would spar with the professionals, to earn extra cash. Again, thank you for your help.

posted 8/24/2016 7:54:42 AM One way to find the information:
Click on HELLCAT NEWS ARCHIVES (to the left of this message):
Click on ADVANCED SEARCH
Fill in the TITLE as HELLCAT NEWS
Fill in the DATE RANGE as : 1942-1945
Fill in CONTENT (inside pages) BOXING
At this point you will seem thumbnails of the HELLCAT NEWS. Click on the first one. You get a large page.
See SEARCH INSIDE. Make sure you write:
BOXING
Then click on this. You will see "sequence 7" This means page 7. Click on the image. Page 7 has several words (boxing) outlined in yellow. Read the whole article for names and other clues.
Now continue your search by clicking the BACK POINTER at the top. Go to the first display showing other thumbnails of issues. Click on the next one. Repeat the whole process for the second thumbnail. In some cases there will be more than one page ("sequence") for a given issue.
I did not finish my search for the names you wanted to find. However, there was Billy Conn, and another pro boxer who coached the 12th ARmored. Also, there was a middleweight contender who wss an enlisted man in the division. Finally, many names are mentioned. Boxing was very popular. I believe that Harry? Coombes was an outstanding fighter for the division.
Please let me know if you find what you were looking for.

posted 8/26/2016 6:46:22 AM Yes, Harry. However, all the boxing information is associated with the word "boxing." I tried looking up names of boxers but it is easier to simply read the columns associated with boxing. However, I did not use the search term "boxer".
